We learned back in November that Common Market was returning to South End. Now we know of another spot that will be opening up in the same building.
Zeppelin, an “upscale, casual dinner and craft cocktail lounge,” is expected to open late spring at 235 W. Tremont Ave. (the same building as Common Market), according to owner Jonathan Swope.
The owners are staying tight-lipped about some of the finer details, but here’s what we know so far:
The spot will serve small plates, craft cocktails, wine, beer and local charcuterie and cheeses.
Its hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 4 p.m.-2 a.m., so it’ll be open for dinner, and after-dinner and late-night drinks.
The interior will be 2,300 square feet (about 80 seats) and the outside will be 750 square feet (30 seats).
The name references the early 1900s balloon-like aircraft that’s filled with gas. Swope said the design of the spot will reflect that early 20th-century theme, with a “modernly rustic 1900s interior.” Its “Steampunk interior interpretation will be an ode to preserving South End’s history, past and present,” he added.
“Zeppelin is excited to provide a much needed upscale, casual dinner and craft cocktail lounge in the South End Community,” Swope said in an email. “We are a proud addition to the West Tremont Avenue corridor which will grow into the central hub of Charlotte’s fastest growing neighborhood. Zeppelin scouted locations for over a year until we found a building that preserves Charlotte’s, and specifically South End’s, rich history which keeps getting torn down brick-by-brick.”
