The Weeknd is bringing his first ever world tour — and spaceship — to Charlotte on Wednesday, May 17, kicking off summer concert season in the Queen City.
The Grammy Award winner’s fans can expect to sing along to his massive hit singles “Can’t Feel My Face” and “The Hills” while dancing to more of his deep tracks. The centerpiece of the concert is a pink and blue spaceship above the singer and his three-piece band. Special Guests Rae Sremmurd, Belly and 6Black will be opening the show.
As if that wasn’t enough, The Weeknd’s show is the first of a series of summer concerts at the Spectrum Center (formerly Time Warner Cable Arena).
Here’s two of the other highlights of what to expect this summer:
The Total Package Tour with New Kids on the Block and Superstar Special Guests — Boyz II Men & Paula Abdul on July 13. Whether you grew up in the 80s or are a fan of synthesizer-infused pop and boy bands, this is the show for you. A follow-up to 2013’s hit Package Tour, the Total Package Tour is the group’s biggest lineup yet. NKOTB returns after their touring hiatus in 2016 with their hits “Hangin Tough,” “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)” and “Step by Step.” This will be the second time Boyz II Men shares the stage with NKOTB, and it’s bound to be a big party.
“Our fans know we love to bring them a party, and this tour is no exception,” says NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg. “It’s not just a show, it’s an experience. Paula Abdul is such a pop icon and Boyz II Men are one of the best R&B acts of all time. It’s going to be a night of hit after hit, and we can’t wait to deliver the ‘Total Package’ to our fans!”
Earth, Wind & Fire and CHIC Ft. Nile Rodgers on August 18. Nothing beats the bubbling funk of these two critically-acclaimed, beloved bands, which will present 2054 The Tour. Groove to “September” and “Fantasy” from Earth, Wind & Fire and get down to CHIC’s classic “Le Freak.” “Nile Rodgers and CHIC are legendary for their iconic style, song, sound, and groove,” says Philip Bailey, co-founder of Earth, Wind & Fire. “Get ready for a non-stop 2054 party!”
Kendrick Lamar and Special Guests- YG & D.R.A.M. Just announced yesterday, the sold out THE DAMN.TOUR is expanding the tour and will visit additional cities this August and September. The tour comes after the platinum selling number one album, DAMN., took the music industry by storm. Kendrick Lamar and his special guests will be headed to Charlotte on Tuesday, August 29.
