5 bars to watch the World Cup, with drink and food specials

The 2018 Fifa World Cup begins today, June 14, with Russia facing off against Saudi Arabia at 11 a.m. The watch parties (and the soccer games) continue through July 15. Here are 5 bars to watch the World Cup, with drink and food specials to draw you in.

Jack’s House

1523 Elizabeth Ave.

Welcome to the official sports bar of the Charlotte Independence, our local soccer team, as well as the Charlotte Hounds, our local lacrosse team. They have a whole slew of watch parties lined up and a menu ranging from beer and cider to rose.

Specials: There may be one-off drink specials during the stretch of games, but more importantly this bar is home to the NoDa 1775 Pale Ale, deemed the only official soccer beer in Charlotte (and perhaps, therefore, the only official World Cup beer in Charlotte?). Find this special beer, and drink it.

Big Ben Pub

2000 South Blvd., #150

Big Ben is, you guessed it, named after the famous bell  in London’s House of Parliament clock tower. This British pub offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a casual vibe. Try the potato skins with cheddar to snack on.

Specials during the games: $3.50 Strong Bow bottles and $4.50 Heineken drafts (20 oz. pours)

Courtyard Hooligans Soccer Bar & Pub

140 Brevard Ct.

This snug bar off of Brevard Court is known for rowdy watch parties — especially when soccer is involved. The pub will open 30 minutes prior to the first game each day of the World Cup.

Specials during the games: A breakfast menu! Queen City Bites and Crafts will be serving a Breakfast in a Burrito menu for the games, from vegetable to red chili. Prices start at $7.50 and you can see the menu here.

Tyber Creek Pub

1933 S. Blvd.

This neighborhood pub sports a cozy interior bar on two different floors to crowd around, plus an outdoor bar with booths and twinkling lights to relax under. Fuel your cheering with the spinach artichoke dip and crostini, to start.

Specials for the month (and the games): $4 AMB Blondes and $5 Ketel Ones

Kristophers Sports Bar & Restaurant

250 N. Trade St., Matthews

This venue contains more than 60 wide-screen TVs and offers bike nights, karaoke and a place to watch sports just outside of Charlotte.

Specials during the games: The typical daily specials will remain the same. Starting with Thursday, plan for $3.15 import bottle beer and $8.99 plates of BBQ with all of the fixings.
