On August 19, First Wind Cycling & Fitness will kick off their “Vow to Be Fit” challenge. The 28-day fitness and nutrition boot camp’s goal is to encourage brides, grooms and wedding party members to come together and to unwind from the stresses of planning a wedding all while getting healthy and having fun.

We caught up with Karen Hill, owner and manager of First Wind Cycling, to find out more about the program. There is still time to sign up!

First Wind Cycling & Fitness owner, Karen Hill, and her fiancé, Charlie Meyer, are ready for the Vow to Be Fit challenge. Are you?

How did you come up with the concept?
I was thinking of doing a bridal boot camp since I am getting married soon (September 15!) and I wanted to connect with and have fun with other brides. Then one day, Charlie (my fiancé) said, “we should do a couples boot camp and run it together.” He came up with the name, which I loved, and I loved that he wanted to do this with me. Fitness is one of the best ways to bond with your mate and your friends, so I thought it was perfect!

What can participants expect?
We will have a heart pumping and fun weekly boot camp suitable for all fitness levels at First Wind on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. (One boot camp session falls over Labor Day, so we will offer a make-up day for that.)

Participants will also receive a workout calendar with at-home workouts designed by me, as well as a 28-day nutrition guide with a meal planner and recipes from Certified Nutritional Health Coach, Samantha Eaton. At a discounted rate, participants can also purchase unlimited group classes for the duration of the 28-day program. If their wedding day is a little farther out, we’re offering a free refresher where participants get free group classes for the two weeks leading up to their wedding, or if they are right on time, we’ll give them two free weeks after the wedding to keep it going!

Will Charlie be taking part in the challenge with you?
Yes! He will be participating in the boot camps, doing the full program, and assisting me with classes.

Who should participate?
Engaged Couples, newly married couples, or anyone about to be a part of someone’s wedding party. This challenge is for couples and members of the wedding party.

How is your wedding planning process going?
Let’s just say I hope my planner has a better grasp on things than I do. I think we are down to the nuts and bolts now like table numbers, songs to dance to, and things like that. I will just keep my fingers crossed that I haven’t missed anything major. Our cake topper just came in and I’m super excited about that! It’s the little things 🙂

Any lessons learned that you would like to share with other brides?
My advice would be enjoy this time! Don’t get caught up in making things perfect because that’s not how life works and it’s not how weddings work. You’ll make yourself crazy and forget to love being engaged. Nail down the things you really care about and go with the flow on the rest.

Remember that at the end of the day no matter what, you’re marrying your best friend and that’s what matters most.  Every day pretty much, I look at Charlie and say “OMGeee we’re getting married!!” He’s probably ready for the wedding so I will stop saying that, but he’s in for a treat because it’s just going to become “OMGeee we’re married!”

What else should we know about First Wind and the challenge?
I want everyone to know that what I do, what First Wind does, and what “Vow to be Fit” will do is all about people of all fitness levels and from all walks of life. People should not feel intimidated to join this challenge because you absolutely belong here. I grew up with heart disease and I understand what it feels like to be unsure about a fitness program. Trust me though, you are ready, this program is for you, this place is for you, and we cannot wait to meet you and help you to feel amazing on the big day!
