Hoppin’ has a new permanent food truck offering everything from wonton nachos to sliders


Twisted Eats by Kre8 Xperiences has partnered with Hoppin’ in South End on a permanent food truck outside the self-serve taproom six days a week, Tuesday-Sunday. The food truck rolled out its new menu items during a soft opening phase starting last Friday.

The team is all about getting the community excited for what they’re eating, and sharing about their experience.

“I want everyone, especially this day and age, to want to take a picture of our food and post about it,” said Alicia Fernandez, operations manager at Kre8 Xperiences. “Number one, we already know it’s going to taste bomb, but I want everyone else to see it, and be impressed by the presentation.”

The team has even started the hashtags #WONTONNACHOS and #NICEBUNS for a shareable experience on Instagram and other social platforms.

“Our food is expected to be good, but it’s got to be different,” said Chef Rob Masone. Masone mentioned that he wants people to go to Wooden Robot’s Gastropub, where Twisted Eats originally started, and then have a totally different experience when they eat at Hoppin’.

Masone’s favorite item? The Breakfast 4 Dinner #WONTONNACHOS, $11, made with shredded potato, fried bologna, over easy egg, roasted onions and peppers and OG beer cheese.

We tried the Birds the Word #WONTONNACHOS, $11, consisting of seared chicken, blended cheddar, crispy kale, diced tomatoes, black olives, candied peppers and white BBQ sauce. Fun fact, their wonton nachos are homemade, which made the bucket of goods even more of a dream.

We also demolished the Crabby Patty #NICEBUNS, $13, which included pesto aioli, arugula and fire roasted tomatoes. The buns were extra toasty, which was a delight.

For now, Masone said he wants to “lock in our roots.”

“We’ll grow with Wooden Robot and we’ll grow with Hoppin’, because the catering and events is what we started as, and is what we do full-time,” said Masone. “With Twisted Eats and the Gastropub, we’re just going to hone in on what we do, and do it really well.”

The food truck has been opening an hour after Hoppin’ normally does, and will continue to adjust their hours over the next few weeks. They typically run until 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. during the week, and 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 p.m. on Sundays.
