Put Spotify and Pandora on pause and jam out at the Trumpet Summit Sept. 20-21

This post is brought to you in partnership with JazzArts Charlotte. All opinions are our own.

When was the last time you put your favorite streaming service on pause and felt the power of live music? If somewhere between “I can’t remember” and “live what?” is your answer, it’s time to get your tickets to the Trumpet Summit at the Booth Playhouse Sept. 20-21.

We’re talking live jazz, well-known soulful tunes and the cool vibes of watching masters at work.

Jam out to jazz classics you know

For the finale of the 2018-19 season, The Jazz Room is pulling out all the stops and getting their brass on with the popular Trumpet Summit at Booth Playhouse. Enjoy a warm fall night in hot Uptown Charlotte listening to top musicians from across the country, including two with Queen City connections.

Jam out with modern and classic tunes from heavy hitters like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie and Roy Hargrove. If you haven’t heard jazz up close and personal, consider this a personal invitation.

Six musicians, four amazing performances

Six (yes, six!) trumpet aficionados will share the stage as they face off in in duos, trios and other combinations with accompaniment on bass, drums and piano egging them on. All five bring a special style to the space, challenging each other to keep raising the stakes.

Included in the special field of five is Charlotte native Ashlin Parker, founder of New Orleans-based band the Trumpet Mafia. A graduate of Northwest School of the Arts and the Jazz Arts Initiative, he will be sharing the stage with Matthew Postle, a top-rated trumpet player and music instructor from Central Piedmont Community College. All this adds up to a big, crazy show you won’t want to miss.

With four opportunities to hear some of the best in the biz, there’s no excuse to miss it. Performances are Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

A different kind of night out

Just like your favorite seasonal beer or latte, September is a time to spice things up. Skip the usual weekend routine for something different. With right priced tickets ($14 general admission, $16 at the door), drink offerings and amazing performances all in the impressive Booth Playhouse, this will be a weekend to remember.

Surprise your SO with a cool night they will thank you for, or grab your friends, co-workers or members of the family and spend the evening in Uptown Charlotte. You’ll be glad you did.

Start your fall off right and help wrap up The Jazz Room season in style!
