Carolina Bride Trendsetting Sites

Go against the grain with these unconventional wedding venues in Charlotte—unique is chic.

Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

Use modern art as your wedding decor and slash your costs a bit. At least, that’s what we’d do if we chose uptown Charlotte’s Bechtler Museum of Modern Art for our nuptials. The museum’s Lobby/Plaza has room for up to 375 guests standing, and the space is made grandiose with high ceilings and large-scale art. Don’t forget to grab a newlywed shot underneath The Firebird’s iconic mirrored stance on street level!

McGill Rose Garden

Concealed throughout brushes and rows of lush roses, magnolias, lavender, and sprawling greenery, the McGill Rose Garden in NoDa is often described as a “hidden gem.” Treat yourself (and your guests) to a dreamy ceremony where the max capacity is 100, and enjoy tucking into the various photo opportunity sites you discover. This garden venue blends natural beauty with city convenience, making it an eclectic find for the unique bride.

Mint Museum Uptown

The Mint’s location in uptown is a contemporary bride’s dream—especially if she’s got a decent-sized guest list. Stretching five stories high and showcasing modern works from American and European artists, this venue oozes art-chic. Smack dab in uptown, the Mint’s Robert Haywood Morrison Atrium offers not only natural light from the wall of windows, but also urban views for dramatic couple photos. It seats 190 guests and holds up to 400 standing.

The Cotton Gin

Revel in rusticity with this nostalgic spot in Monroe—you’ll say “I do” on the site of an old 19th-century cotton gin, hence the venue’s name. The renovated barn has blossomed into the quintessentially Southern wedding venue it is today, and it seats 200 seated guests. Charm your guests with the classic General Store on the property, and wind down after the reception with celebratory s’mores over the bonfire.

The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture

Named after Charlotte’s first African-American mayor and Clemson’s first African-American student, Harvey B. Gantt, this divinely designed, award-winning building offers three floors of fun for your big day. The events team offers a variety of packages utilizing various combinations of these spaces, so here’s the gist: there’s the Grand Lobby, which accommodates 250 for a standing reception; the Mezzanine, which can include a view of the Museum Galleries, and the Rooftop Terrace, which is a no-brainer for breathtaking views.
