If you’re not too preoccupied waiting for Spooky the asteroid to fly by Earth more than 300,000 miles away on Halloween, you should probably figure out which party you’re going to, day or night.

For a haunted brewery tour: Birdsong Brewing Co.

Birdsong will release the seasonal MexiCali Stout (featuring coffee from Central Coffee), host a costume contest (the winner gets a tour, a tasting and a tap room gift certificate) and lead beer drinkers on tours at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Expect the unexpected — like “crazy brewery employees” jumping out to terrify you. Noon-10 p.m.

For a free beverage: Draught

Donate $15 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and get your foot in the door for drink specials (and one complimentary drink with your ticket purchase) as well as raffle prizes and awards for the best costumes. Jell-O shots included. 9 p.m.

For a spooky-science vibe: Discovery Place

The Halloween Birthday Bash celebrates the 34th year of Discovery Place’s existence with creepy-critter encounters and candy-free trick-or-treating. 11 a.m.- 5 p.m.

For cash prizes: The Rusty Rudder

The Rudder’s Boo Bash at Lake Norman boasts a costume contest that awards over $1,000 in cash (and prizes). Music will be thumping too, thanks to the Rudder All Star Band, Disco Lemonade and Jay Mathey Band. 10:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.

For last-minute pumpkin decorating: Ballantyne’s Spooky Village

It’s not too late to get that pumpkin looking properly festive — or to compete in a costume contest, trick-or-treat and listen to live music with Village Kids. 2-5:30 p.m.

For some zen spook: Y2 Yoga

Put on your costume and join the contest, dance to tunes by DJ Smitty, hop into the photo booth and peruse food and drink specials. 8 p.m.

For candy — and craft beer: Sycamore Brewing

Plus live music and a costume contest. While you’re there, don’t forget to wish Sycamore a happy anniversary! 6-11 p.m.

For a creepy-crawler kind of day: Plaza Midwood Fall Crawl

Help the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association deal with creepy cankerworms by banding trees before a costume parade with goblins and ghouls, and “trunk-or-treating.” 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Plus, local musicians will be playing from 12:30-6 p.m.
