The Oakhurst on Monroe mixed-use development is coming out swinging with the announcement of one of its first tenants, a full-service bakery named Swirl.
The 1,200-square-foot shop is an expansion of the home-based award-winning business, Celestial Cakery. Its grand opening is Saturday, May 4, and employees are giving away free cupcakes from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., while supplies last.
Saturday’s free cupcake flavors will be Cleopatra (Salted caramel, cream cheese icing, dulce de leche, and pretzel) and Tiffany (funfetti cake, buttercream, pop rocks, and mini marshmallows). One per customer and while supplies last.
“I began baking as a side hustle in my 75-square-foot kitchen more than 10 years ago,” said owner Ella Stone. “My husband and I were able to grow that business (and the kitchen size, thankfully) with more than 600 wedding cakes created over the last five years. We are so excited to continue growing by moving into a retail space, which will allow us to build deeper relationships within Oakhurst and across Charlotte, and we’ll be more available to our customers.”
Swirl will offer your favorite sweet treats including: cookies and doughnuts, Instagram-worthy cakes in various flavors and designs, both signature cupcakes and “DIY” cupcakes that allow you to customize your order, as well as gluten-free and vegan desserts.
You’ll have the option to pre-order custom cakes and wedding cakes, which is how Stone got her start in the baking business.
The space will be dynamic and family-focused, with a little bit of edge, Stone said.
Swirl is located at 1640 Oakhurst Commons Drive, Suite 103, in the Oakhurst at Monroe shopping center.
