School’s out and it’s time to start getting ready for another sun-soaked beach week. Planning a vacation should be relaxing and fun, not stressful, right? But if you’re like me, that’s never the case. Below are a few tips and links to help you plan your week enjoying the Carolina coastline.
Pack early and pack well.
Sandy toes. Sunny air. A drink in your hand. Vacation is so close, you can taste it. There;s just one thing left to do: pack.
Some people are excellent packers. These people have their beach bag packed a week in advance, all the laundry is done, towels are folded and ready and their sunscreen probably doesn’t have a 2010 expiration date.
I am not one of these people. I pack for every vacation between 10 p.m. and 2 a..m the day before I need to leave. To try to cut down on space and save myself some stress, I’ve become a huge fan of lists and giant beach bags.
Read the rules.
Are you bringing your dog with you? Did you plan to drink a few beers on the beach? Would you rather avoid rowdy partiers?
Research the laws and ordinances of the beaches you’re going to, as they are often different from each other. Links to a few Myrtle Beach ordinances can be found here.
You will also need to research the rules at your beach residence. Do you need to bring cleaning supplies? Trash bags? Extra sheets?
Get to know the town.
No matter how well you planned for your trip, it’s inevitable that you’ll need to pick up something during the week. Spend some time researching the town before you arrive, so you know where you can pop in for some extra sunscreen, buy a bike pump, grab a quick meal or restock your fridge. A list of several shops in Myrtle Beach can be found here.
