Ever wish you could walk right inside the cover of your Southern Living magazine and spend some time up close and personal with decorating and design ideas and be inspired? Now you can all month long with the debut of the area’s first Southern Living Inspired Home in The Bramble community in Fort Mill. (#southernlivingatthebramble)
Fort Mill-based luxury home builder New Old has partnered with Southern Living to create a stunning home and community that exudes quality, craftsmanship and appreciation for Southern architecture.
“We hand-select the best custom homebuilders and communities across the South to be recognized as Southern Living Inspired Communities,” says Kristen Payne, vice president of licensing for Meredith Corporation, the parent company to Southern Living.
So what is a Southern Living Inspired home and why do you absolutely need to see it this month? We’ve got answers (and jaw-dropping pics)! Follow along at @newoldcustomhomes.
‘Born and Bred in the Carolinas’
All 4,200 stunning square feet of the Inspired Home at The Bramble shows off its down-home roots with unique finishes and products from local craftsman. From the freshest paint and wallpaper trends, to warm lighting and finishes, the home showcases southern hospitality by melding timeless traditions with cutting-edge design. Do not miss the dreamy entertainment spaces including a pool, fireplace and outdoor kitchen all on the veranda! It’s easy to see why “Born and Bred in the Carolinas” is the home’s motto (#bornandbredinthecarolinas).
“Since The Bramble is a Southern Living Inspired Home, it must stand the test of time, living up to decades of tradition, but also staying true to local flavor and contemporary style,” says Mary Ludemann, owner and licensed builder at New Old.
Inspired by vintage farmhouses, classic architecture and fine craftsmanship
The home is part of The Bramble community, one of only 13 in the country to be named a Southern Living Inspired Community. This stylish community oozes charm with lush landscaping, copper lanterns, stone pillars and thoughtful touches that inspire relaxed elegance. This community is set in the woodlands near the heart of beautiful Fort Mill, so you get a relaxed vibe near top amenities and entertainment options.
“The Bramble draws its inspiration from vintage Southern farmhouses, classic European architecture and time-honored Appalachian craftsmanship — melding old with new, and form with function,” says Ludemann.
Livable, sophisticated homes
“Around every corner and in every room, we want guests to discover carefully curated spaces and be inspired to bring those ideas into their own homes,” says Vicky Serany, owner and principal designer of Southern Studio. “The craftsmanship featured in The Bramble will reflect some of the highest quality materials and cutting-edge design trends.”

Take a tour, benefit two local charities
Public tours of the Southern Living inspired home began this month and run through June 30. Proceeds from general ticket sales and other events will benefit two local nonprofits — The Levine Cancer Institute – Rock Hill, a local leader in cancer treatment and patient care, and The Anne Spring Close Greenway, a 2,100-acre nature preserve in Fort Mill.
From June 1-30, you can live the dream during the weekend home tours at The Bramble. Tickets are $16, and are sold online and at local retailers in Charlotte and Fort Mill and at the gate. Hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays noon-4 p.m.
Special events, including Designer Day, chef demos, BBQs, and a pool bash are also planned this summer.
The Southern Living Inspired Home is located at 427 Bramble Way, Fort Mill, SC 29708. From Interstate 77 exit 85, take a left on Market Street, then a left on Sutton Road, right on Camber Woods Drive and finally a left on Bramble Way.
