Real Charlotte is a weekly series highlighting everyday humans that live in Charlotte. The people are what make this place special. Through this series, we hope to show you the successes, struggles, goals and dreams of Charlotteans.

Arsena Schroeder is kind, stylish, down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Known for her acoustic-driven tunes as an American soul artist, Arsena has performed on both large and small stages and has many big dreams ahead of her. It’s people like Arsena that inspire us to work hard, hone in on your passion and spread love wherever you go. Her words:

“I consider myself a Charlottean, but was originally born in Pittsburgh. I moved to Charlotte when I was 5 with my mother and my uncle. We came here for a change of scenery, but we return to Pittsburgh as much as we are able to. …

“I am a full-time singer-songwriter and music artist. The bulk of what I do consists of writing and performing songs, providing live music and empowering people to follow their passion. I really enjoy what I do and turned down a full ride to graduate school to do it. …

“I’m most thankful for my family. This year my family lost two members — my uncle and my grandfather. With the holidays here, I’m not taking any of the time I have left with my family for granted. I love them dearly. …

“My goals for next year are to get the ball rolling for my sophomore album. I plan to work with producers in Washington, D.C. — the place where I first started songwriting. …

“Next year, I’m really excited to teach my ‘Using Your Unique: DIY Artist Branding’ program at the Kannapolis City Hall. This is a group format of the one-on-one artist consultations I’ve been offering over the past four years. I’ve found that most artists — of various mediums — do not know how to market themselves, let alone their art. So I’m looking forward to working with participants through this four-week program.  …

“I’ve found that my ‘unique’ is being a singer-songwriter whose work embodies multiple genres — soul, folk and inspiration. It’s taken me years to find and develop my sound and it’s something I am proud of. I believe my purpose in life is to empower others to live out their purpose in life so I am very intentional about spreading that message through my music.”
