As part of its annual efforts to help local animals, the Humane Society of Charlotte will host Pet Palooza on April 27 at McAlpine Creek Park. If you’re looking for a spot to let your pet explore or just want to come out to see some adorable furry friends, you don’t want to miss this Charlotte tradition. Pet Palooza has been going on for more than 10 years and regularly draws more than 4,000 participants.
What can you expect?
Pet Palooza is a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Charlotte presented by Petco Foundation. Open to the public, the event allows volunteers and staffers to compete to out-fundraise each other. The festival features a fundraising walk around the dog-friendly paths of McAlpine Creek, but exercise and raising funds are not the only activities participants can expect.
Pet-loving vendors, costumed participants, a picnic pavilion and food trucks are all staples of the event. Plus, you can quench your post-walk thirst at the beer garden provided by Brewers at 4001 Yancey. And if you’re looking for a new family member, a pet adoption area will be located on-site.
Where do the funds go?
Money raised at Pet Palooza helps the Humane Society of Charlotte provide programs, resources, services and care to local animals. The society houses between 80 and 120 animals at any given time, and its staff provides each animal with loving care, personal time and attention to its individual needs.
“Without the support of the community, HSC wouldn’t be able to provide the same services that we do today,” HSC Marketing and Communications Manager Emily Cook said. “I think the beauty of fundraising for the Humane Society of Charlotte is that the community knows that their fundraising efforts go directly to help the animals that are here in our shelter on Toomey Avenue.”
What are you waiting for?
Animal lovers in Charlotte can experience the joy of the human-animal bond by coming to Pet Palooza and supporting the Humane Society’s mission of delivering effective, innovative services that improve the lives of companion animals and the people who care about them. The event is open to the public, but you can register to walk here. Thank you for doing all you can for the animals in this wonderful city.
