This post is brought to you in partnership with Relay. All opinions are our own.

Designed as a safer alternative to a smartphone, Relay is a screen-free cell phone specifically built for kids. It’s safe and fun for children while still offering parents peace of mind. Think of a walkie-talkie with the 4G LTE range of a cell phone and built-in GPS tracking.

We teamed up with Relay to bring you a list of some of the coolest events happening around Charlotte this month for you and your family to enjoy. Grab a pack of Relays for the family and head out for worry-free adventures!

The Great Pumpkin Fest

Every Saturday and Sunday in October is reserved for a kid-friendly celebration of Halloween at famed amusement park Carowinds. The Great Pumpkin Fest, a throwback to the classic Charlie Brown story, is a non-frightening alternative to the more adult-oriented SCarowinds event (which happens in the park on weekends after nightfall). Bring your little ghouls and get into the holiday spirit with age-appropriate spooks that aren’t too scary.

The Carolina Balloon Fest

On October 19 through October 21, drive your family out to Statesville to experience the Carolina Balloon Fest. A celebration of hot air balloons in all sorts of unique shapes and colors, the event will feature a kids’ zone for the children, wine and craft beer tasting for parents and plenty of good eats. It’s an event you don’t want to miss. With Relay, you can send your kids to the kids’ zone while you grab a drink, monitoring their location via GPS.

Located just a stone’s throw away in Huntersville, the Carolina Rennaissance Festival is a great place to take your family and revel in history-based entertainment. In addition to a pub crawl for the adults, there are games, rides, exhibits and a marketplace to buy goodies. This year, experience the new Living Mermaid exhibit that is sure to be a hit among participants of all ages. Plus, with Relay, you can multitask. Have the kids watch that jousting match they’ve been hankering over while the parents grab a turkey leg and some homebrewed mead!
