That feeling of strutting out the barbershop or salon with a new haircut and fresh shave, knowing you’re looking your best, can be one of a kind. However, finding that right shop that fits everything you’re looking for can be tough. Some prefer a more lively atmosphere where you can sit back, enjoy a stiff drink and have a few laughs, while others want a shop where they feel more comfortable bringing the whole family while they get shaped up.
Whatever you are looking for, here are 10 of the best shops in the Charlotte area that can meet all of your men’s grooming needs, including hot towel treatments, shaves and even massages.
Goodfellas Barber Shop
4005 Sunset Rd, Ste B
Goodfellas’ co-owner Maurice McKinnon told me, “If you got hair, we do it” and I think that does a good job of summing up what this shop is all about. It has 12 barbers who all are proficient in the services offered, including haircuts, shaves, hair designs, light facials, bread trims, straight razor shaves and more. While Goodfellas does have a traditional barbershop look, it definitely breaks from the typical mold. There is a strict no drinking, no cursing and no gambling policy. McKinnon wants to emphasize a family-friendly environment.
Straight razor shave: $25
Beard trim: $10
Extra: Goodfellas’ barbers are known for giving back to the community, including offering free Thanksgiving dinner and haircuts to local students. McKinnon said it is important to be involved in the community because it is what feeds the business.

Opened since Sept. 1992, B&J Barber Stylist Shop has been a staple in its community. It offers haircuts, beard trims, straight razor shaves, eyebrow arching, facials and coloring. Owner Joseph Grimes told me he wants to make sure B&J keeps its family friendly environment and stays a leader in the community.

This barbershop has three locations all across the Charlotte area and one in Concord, inside Concord Mills. No Grease was founded in 1997 by twin brothers, Damian and Jermaine Johnson, from Buffalo, NY. It is a one-stop for all the grooming needs of men, women and children. The name of the shop comes from a typical barber’s pet peeve of having their clippers jam when a client came in with too much grease in their hair.
Beard Trim: $15-$20
Straight razor shave: $25
*Prices are the same at every location
Extra: No Grease also has its own barber college, training some of the best Charlotte has to offer. The school was created in 2016 and master barbers do a majority of the teaching, allowing students to get practical hands-on experience. The college even offers scholarships.
221 S Tryon St
This Uptown salon definitely gives off some major lounge vibes, as you can enjoy a drink, hang out with friends and get all your grooming needs taken care of. Emerson Joseph has a sophisticated design with a very clean and crisp looking interior. It does well to mix that traditional barbershop feel with a touch of the new and trendy. It also offers more services than most shops, including haircuts, shaves, hot towel treatments, facial hair trimmings, waxing, hand and foot detailing, massages, facials and shoe shines.
Full service cut (scalp massage, shampoo and condition, hot facial towel, cut, hand detail, cleansing re-shampoo, style and a drink of your choice): $44 and up
Full service cut Phase One (same principle as the full-service cut, but done by a less experienced stylist who has completed a 90 day on-boarding program): $24
Straight razor shave: $44 and up
Facial hair trim: $10 and up
Extra: This place has its own speakeasy, called Room XIII. Request a reservation to get 24-hour personalized punch code access to a private room with two card tables, a wet bar and private lockers for members.
