Some days, you just need a restaurant that will fill your stomach without emptying your wallet. Here are seven places in the Montford/Park Road/Madison Park area with lunch options for less than $10, tax included.

Shake Shack

1605 E. Woodlawn Road

Try: The ShackBurger with lettuce, tomato and Shacksauce ($5.73).

Try: The Shack-Cago Dog with relish, onions, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, celery, salt and mustard ($4.64).

Try: A Featured Shake in Mocha Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Brownie or Marshmallow Chocolate Chip ($6.16).

Charlotte Cafe

Try: The Grilled Cheese, served with a side. Get the Baked Macaroni and Cheese to maximize the cheesiness of one meal. ($7.52).

Try: The Old Fashioned Hot Dog with a side. Try the Cole Slaw for a classic American meal. ($5.68).

Try: The French Toast. ($7.04).

The Roasting Company

Try: A Rotisserie Chicken Plate with dark meat served with cornbread and a side. I highly recommend the garlicky new potatoes. ($6.92).

Try: The tarragon walnut Chicken Salad Sandwich on a toasted bun with a side like the garlicky new potatoes. Seriously, they’re so good. ($8.93).

Try: The Vegetarian Combo; herb rice with black beans, onions, cheddar and Jaco sauce served with cornbread and a side such as the garlicky new potatoes (I want everyone in Charlotte to try the potatoes at least once) ($6.22).

You can’t get chicken like this just anywhere.

Try: The Spicy Cashew Soba Noodles with rainbow carrots, edamame, celery, scallions, kale, broccoleaf and purple cabbage ($9.73).

Try: The Mendocino Market with roasted squash, red onion, parmesan, quinoa, lentil and millet blend, kale, broccoleaf and purple cabbage ($9.30).

Try: The Kebab Cobb with feta, red onion, spicy peppers, romaine and pita chips ($9.30).

Midwood Smokehouse

Try: The Roadhouse; a chuck and brisket burger with ketchup, mustard, pickles, American cheese, lettuce and tomato ($9.73).

Try: The Midwood Grilled Cheese with cheddar, gruyere, smoked onions and a creamy tomato spread ($8.28)

Try: The BBQ Pork Sandwich with hickory smoke chopped pork and Eastern NC vinegar sauce ($8.93).

Duckworth’s Kitchen and Taphouse

Try: The Spring Mix Salad with mixed greens, feta cheese, dried cranberries, candied pecans, croutons and balsamic vinaigrette ($8.65).

Try: The BBQ Chicken & Jalapeño Bacon Flatbread with grilled chicken, sweet & tangy BBQ sauce, cheese, caramelized onions, jalapeño bacon and fresh cilantro ($9.73).

Try: The Sweet N’ Bold Gold Chicken Flatbread with signature Sweet n’ Bold Gold sauce, cheese and all white meat chicken drizzled with ranch ($8.65).

Viva Chicken

Try: The Pollo a la Brasa; a quarter dark chicken marinated in a Peruvian spice mix with two sides ($9.69).

Try: The Arroz Chaufa; Peruvian Fried Rice with red peppers, green onions, red onion, eggs, soy sauce and ginger ($7.52).

Try: The Inca Wrap with jasmine rice, canary beans, salsa criolla and avocado ($8.12).

  1. Moosehead has one of the best lunches in town and definitely on Montford. How do you guys consistently leave them off these lists?

  2. Never understood the rave about shake snack. Any place that charges $10 for a combo and they serve you crinkle cut fries is a bogus.
