The greater Charlotte area has a ton of big box stores to pick from, but the next time you’re in need of pet food or accessories, check out one of these locally-owned pet shops that offer all-natural, locally-sourced food, and custom care for your four-legged family members.

Pet Wants

What to find here: Pet Wants specializes in fresh and healthy small-batch pet food made with all-natural ingredients and no sugar, fillers, or animal by-products. Their mission is to educate pet owners on what’s really in their pet food, and to provide high-quality food for dogs and cats in the Charlotte community (pet food starts at $2.85/pound). What to find here: At the retail section of this veterinary center, you can pick up prescriptions, foods, shampoos, dental care products, and even collars, leashes, toys, and treats.

Other services offered: Since this is first and foremost a vet’s office, they also offer dog and cat wellness visits, acupuncture, allergy testing, dentistry, surgery, grooming and boarding. Call for pricing.

What to find here: Four Dogs Pet Supplies focuses on premium dog foods. It also carries a variety of pet essentials, including collars, bowls, leashes, grooming products, beds, and toys.

4 Paws Holistic

Canine Cafe

What to find here: Canine Cafe bakes healthy dog treats on-site daily, including “Pawty Cakes” for your furry friend’s birthday. All of their treats are made with natural ingredients, including multiple-grains, peanut butter, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They carry everything from petit fours and cannolis for little pups, up to 11-inch fire hydrant pawty cakes for your dog’s whole gang (a four-inch round pawty cake starts at $14.95). The store also carries all-natural dog food, treats, chews, toys, grooming tools and more.

Other services offered: Canine Cafe has a do-it-yourself dog spa with raised booster baths, all-natural shampoos and cream rinses, towels, brushes, dryers, and after-bath spritzes. It costs $15 per bath and your 12th bath is free.

What to find here: The Dog Salon is, you guessed it, a local grooming salon for your pup. However, they also have a little boutique in their reception area. They carry a lot of handmade goods that are local or made in the U.S., including food, treats, collars, leashes, candles, and toys.

Other services offered: In the salon, they offer full grooms, mini grooms, baths, and DIY dog washes. Prices for a full groom start at $50, mini groom starts at $35, baths start at $25, and the DIY dog was starts at $12.
