Mooresville has always been a special place to Lauren McGee and Chris Clunie; it’s where her family lives and near where he went to college at Davidson. But now that they’ve said their vows at Johnson Carriage House and Meadows, it means something more—it’s the place where they came together as one and celebrated their love with family, friends, and a few horses.
In the bride’s words:
Chris and I met through a couple of our best friends. My childhood friend and college roommate, Jen, was dating Chris’s college basketball teammate and friend Brendan. (They’re now married.) After having dinner with Chris in Davidson, they set us up on a blind date back in New York City, where Chris and I live, at a South African restaurant in the Upper East Side.
We chose to get married in North Carolina because I am from Winston-Salem, and it was important to be close to family and where I grew up. We chose the Mooresville area because of it’s close proximity to Chris’s alma mater, Davidson College. We both have a real connection to the location, which made our wedding that much more special.
I loved that our venue, Johnson Carriage House & Meadows, allowed us to incorporate indoor and outdoor aspects throughout the day. From getting ready in the cottage to a lawn ceremony in near perfect weather conditions, cocktail hour in the horse stables to dinner under the newly constructed open-air pavilion and dancing in the main house, I could not have dreamed of a more perfect location for our wedding day. And as an animal lover, it was fun to see the horses roaming the pasture throughout the day.
We decided to display our grandparents’ wedding photos during the reception because it was important to us to honor them in some way. We were both very close to our grandparents and think of them as role models in life and in marriage—all of them were married over 50 years. They would have loved our wedding ceremony and celebration, so having their photos on display helped us and our guests remember and honor them.
Basketball is a huge part of Chris’ life—he played at Davidson and now works for the NBA — and our wedding date was also right after March Madness, so it was a fun to incorporate a basketball tournament bracket with our guest seating chart. My stepmom, Ginger, did all of the embroidery for mine and my bridesmaid’s getting ready shirts, as well as my dancing shoes, which was another personal touch.
