How to join Unknown Brewery’s Cookies and Crafts tasting today [Partner]

Christmas may be over, but there are still plenty of cookies Santa won’t be able to get his hands on. To celebrate the upcoming second annual Cookies and Crafts event on January 7, 2017, where 20 local breweries will gather to serve select beers paired with Girl Scouts cookies, The Unknown Brewery is having a pre-party today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is one of several recent pre-parties celebrating the partnership between The Fillmore Charlotte and Girls Scouts Hornet’s Nest Council, which brings the Girls Scouts to an entirely new audience.

We’ve been able to recruit episodic volunteers (we need volunteers for way more than troop leaders these days!), talked to parents of girls about signing their daughters up for Girl Scouting and yes, traded notes on what cookies pair best with certain beers,” said Taryn Rimland, the Girl Scouts’ Adult Development & Program Manager, of the pre-parties.

At The Unknown Brewery today, expect to pair your Tagalongs or Thin Mints with their wide selection of local brews. There’s even a secret password for free beer: The first 10 people who say #cookiesandcrafts2017 will have their first beer for free and 50 cents of every pint will go to benefit Girl Scouts Hornet’s Nest Council.

“Cookies and Crafts is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Lisa Shell of The Unknown Brewery. “It combines two of our favorite things: Girl Scout cookies and beer.  What could be better?”

These pre-parties have also been held at Birdsong, Cabarrus, High Branch, Legion, Lenny Boy, Thirsty Nomad, Three Spirits over the last couple of weeks.  Today’s event, like the other pre-parties, are leading up to Cookies and Crafts at The Fillmore during the first week of January. This will be the second time the event has been hosted here, and the plan is to be bigger and better with two sessions during the day, 20 local breweries slated to do the cookie pairings and tastings, the debut a new Girl Scout cookie, and some outdoor activities.

Last year’s inaugural event sold over 1,400 tickets in less than 3 weeks, so Rimland is hoping for continued support or an even bigger turnout. Tickets are on sale now or if you buy your ticket at The Unknown Brewery, you’ll receive a promo code for $10 off your ticket.
