Performs difficult technical work in the inspection of natural gas transmission and distribution construction and maintenance activities performed by the City of Monroe’s pipeline contractor(s); does related work as required. Requires thorough knowledge of construction safety requirements, natural gas federal regulations, natural gas safety, construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment relating to public utilities; general knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress; ability to detect errors in construction projects; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners, and associates to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards; ability to maintain accurate records. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and progressive experience in construction work supplemented by formal training. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the natural gas industry with experience with polyethylene pipe fusion, reading construction plans, and as-built prints. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of OSHA Safety Training for Competent Persons certification within six (6) months of employment. Possession of CPR and basic first aid certification within one year of employment.
Grade 16; salary range $50,502- $84,198.
