The roughly 1,500 square-foot bar will be in the new Novel Noda building at 36th Street and the Blue Line light rail extension, across from the Wooden Robot brewery that will open next year, according to the Charlotte firm Asana Partners.
Idlewild will be a membership-based bar with no cocktail menu. Instead, bartenders create custom-made cocktails that run for about $14 each. The bar’s managing partner, Vincent Chirico, said that approach is intended to foster relationships between the bartenders and customers.
The bar, which will open in late fall 2018, will aim to preserve an “intimate atmosphere,” so will accept parties of six or less.
“The food and beverage scene is only getting better (in Charlotte), and we’d like to be a part of that. NoDa is one of the neighborhoods that we think is at the forefront of that movement,” said Chirico, who moved to Charlotte this year after seven years of bartending in New York City.
Crescent Communities originally developed Novel NoDa, which includes the 344-unit apartment building that will have Idlewild on its ground floor. Crescent sold the the 0.9-acre site to Asana Partners for $1.9 million in February. Asana owns about 45,000 square feet of retail space on the site, and recently bought a 20,000 square-foot warehouse next door, too.
