Johnna Snell, a healthcare sales executive, and Robert Porcher, a retired NFL player, were married on April 22, 2018 at Charles Towne Landing, Legare Waring House in Charleston, South Carolina. For their wedding, they wanted something that would be memorable, elegant and dreamy. With the assistance of Cory Winn Lambert with Sage Innovations and photography by Indigo Photography, they were able to capture their dreamlike wedding.

Crossing paths

Robert and Johnna first met in 1993 during a brief introduction by Johnna’s brother-in-law in Detroit. Twenty-five years later, their paths crossed again on Market Street in Charleston, S.C. Johnna was in town for her niece’s college graduation from the College of Charleston and Robert was in town visiting his parents for Mother’s Day. Robert was driving down Market Street when he recognized Johnna sitting outside a restaurant with her family and stopped to say hello.

She said yes

After five months of long-distance dating, Robert decided to make the relationship official in October 2016. But before he asked Johnna to be his girlfriend, he invited her parents to lunch to share with them his intentions and interest in pursuing a relationship with her. Four months later, he again reached out to them with his intentions–this time with a plan to propose. After receiving their blessing, Robert and Johnna traveled to Charleston to visit his family. While visiting, Robert began talking about his and Johnna’s courtship, how she had changed his life, and how he couldn’t come up with a reason why she shouldn’t be his wife. He reached into his pocket and got down on one and Johanna excitedly said yes! After the proposal, Robert and Johnna returned to Hall’s Chophouse, the restaurant where Robert saw her waiting months prior, to celebrate.

Wedding details

Color palette Peach, dusty rose, champagne, gray. Favors Fresh gourmet donuts in custom bags. The guest List “Every guest who attended represented the progressive decades of our lives,” Johnna says. “Marrying at an older age, the relationships with our guests consisted of special family members, childhood friends, college classmates, teammates, coaches, mentors and colleagues, all of whom played a very special part in our lives and our development.” Picture Perfect The spring weather set an amazing backdrop for the couple’s custom-made cross that was the focal point of the outdoor ceremony. With the beautiful Spanish moss and the breathtaking Avenue of Oaks in full bloom, the scenery could not have been more perfect.

Lessons learned

Advice from Johnna: “Enjoy the planning process and enjoy your day. Inevitably something is not going to go as planned, but believe me, the only person that will know is you!”

Advice for Robert: “Check in with your wife from time to time throughout the planning process. It’ll let her know that you care.”
