Hot Taco opens today in South End. What you need to know

South End is a hub for new and innovative food concepts, so it’s no surprise that the fine folks at The Bottle Cap Group brought us Hot Taco, which has its grand opening today.

The new restaurant located in the old Greek Isles space on Bland Street offers delicious food, more than 60 tequilas and a great atmosphere.

For grub, Hot Taco has a menu full of traditional cantina classics, such as carnitas, taquitos and enchiladas. But it also has specialty dishes like the house-made chorizo for the empanadas con chorizo.

I had the opportunity to sample their menu and I can tell you that this isn’t your everyday TexMex — the food is as original as it comes. High fives from this picky eater.

In addition to the massive food menu, you’ll find a diverse drink menu, from frozen drinks to more elaborate cocktails like “The Mailu,” which features Espolon Tequila, pineapple and coconut cream, or The “Bel-Air” which features tequila, muddled jalapenos and cucumbers.

Hot Taco is super inviting with an eclectic décor, from a lucha libre mask collection to the Espolon Tequila Mural.

The mural, created by artist Michael Boudreault from Artisan Rooms, features art from the Espolón Tequila brand that uses drawings inspired by the Day of The Dead, so you’ll see plenty of skulls.

(Fun fact: The rooster in the mural has a name. It’s Ramon.)
