The tragic shooting on the campus of UNC Charlotte on Tuesday has left a sadness over our city. It is felt even more by the students, faculty and staff who have direct ties to the campus.
In an effort to provide a little relief in this dark time, local businesses are rallying to support the victims. Among the largest group of supporters are several local yoga and fitness studios, many of them part of the Sweatnet network, providing free classes.
Channeling emotions and finding a healthy release is important after experiencing trauma and tragedy. While everyone heals in different ways, yoga and exercise are great ways to do so.
“As Charlotteans, Americans, friends, community members and human beings, we need to stand together and support each other,” said Karen Hill Meyer, owner of First Wind Cycling and Fitness.
“Our hearts are broken over the loss of precious members of our community, and we are all holding those injured and directly impacted in our thoughts at every moment of the day. We recognize that there is so much that has to be done to help everyone heal, and we hope that members of the UNCC student body and staff can use our studio and many others doing the same thing as places to find some balance and support.”
