14 of the best free run clubs to help you keep your New Year’s resolution

It’s the beginning of a new year, which means it’s time to get started on your New Year’s Resolutions. If you’re like most people, improving your health will likely be at the top of your list. But what if you’re looking to get a good sweat without breaking the bank?

There are plenty of free run clubs in Charlotte where you can burn a lot of calories without going too far from home. You don’t even have to worry about getting bored because there are so many routes — you can go for a run somewhere new almost every day of the week.

Check out the list below for 14 of our favorite free run clubs to help keep your health goals on track:

Mondays

Charlotte Running Company Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 1412 East Blvd.
Distance: 4.4 miles
What else? This is the longest-running run club in Charlotte. Join Charlotte Running Company for their weekly run and stick around after for a cold beer from their in-store tap.

Heist Brewery Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 2909 N. Davidson St.
Distance: 1, 3 or 5 miles
What else? Runners can participate in a frequent runner program where after eight stamps, you get a complimentary menu item. Also for $25, you can enjoy the perks of the Heist Run Club, which includes 10% off food items, 20% off apparel, a 20 oz. beer any night of the week, and a Heist Run Club shirt.

Tuesdays

Bold Missy Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 610 Anderson St.
Distance: 1.5, 3 or 5 miles
What else? If you’re often hungry post run, this is your best bet to get more bang for your buck as runners receive 50% off gourmet hot dogs and flatbreads post-workout.

Catawba Brewing Co. Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 933 Louise Ave. Suite 105
Distance: 5.2 miles
What else? This route is out and back, so you can make this run shorter than 5.2 by turning around at any point. No matter how far you run, you’ll enjoy views of the skyline as you run down Central Ave. and onto Little Sugar Creek Greenway.

Wooden Robot Brewery Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 1440 S. Tryon St. #110
Distance: 1, 3 or 5 miles
What else? This run is great for beginners (or those worried about getting lost) because a majority of the route runs on the rail trail.  

Wednesdays

NoDa Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m. (March – October)
Where: 2921 N. Tryon St.
Distance: 1, 3 or 5 miles
What else? With plenty of themed runs and local businesses tabling, it’s no surprise NoDa Run Club is one of Charlotte’s most popular run clubs. You’ll never have to worry about parking either with their large parking lot (an amenity not all breweries offers).

Sycamore Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 2161 Hawkins St.
Distance: 1, 3 or 5 miles
What else? The most scenic on the lst, this route starts right behind Sycamore on the rail trail before heading into Historic Dilworth and through Latta Park.

Thursdays

Ballantyne Running Club

When: 6:15 p.m.
Where: GrowerUSA, 12206 Copper Way Suite #124
Distance: 5 miles (winter route)
What else? This run club is your best bet if you’re located in South Charlotte. Runners meet at GrowlerUSA before hitting the McApline Creek Greenway near Pike’s Nursery.

Divine Barrel Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 3701 N Davidson St. Suite #203
Distance: 1, 2 or 3 miles
What else? Earn perks while you run with Divine Barrel Brewing’s Run Club punch card. After you attend ten runs, you’ll earn a shirt.

Legion Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 1906 Commonwealth Ave.
Distance: 4 miles
What else? If you live in the Plaza Midwood area, this is the run club for you. Make sure to stick around after and enjoy a beer next to the fire pit.

Triple C Brewing Run Club

When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 2900 Griffith St.
Distance: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 miles
What else? This route takes you on the light rail and is out-and-back, meaning you can turn around whenever you’d like. Triple C Brewing’s yoga class happens at the same time, so it’s great if you’re friends with a yogi and want to hang out after and grab a drink. But since their parking lot is small, make sure to get there early.

Saturdays

Sycamore Brewing Run Club

When: 12 p.m.
Where: 2161 Hawkins St.
Distance: 1, 3 or 5 miles
What else? This is your best (and only) bet for a Saturday run club, making it the perfect way to start your weekend.

Sundays

Lenny Boy Brewing Run Club

When: 11 a.m.
Where: 3000 S. Tryon St.
Distance: 1.5, 3 or 5 miles
What else? If you’re looking to enjoy a beverage other than beer after your run, this the run club for you. Lenny Boy Brewing’s large selection of kombucha is guaranteed to quench your thirst post-sweat.

NoDa Brewing Run Club

When: 12 p.m. (November – February)
Where: 2921 N. Tryon St.
Distance: 1, 3, or 5 miles
What else? If you’re looking to get in a stretch in before your run, head to the brewery at 11 a.m. for NoDa Hop Yoga. For only $5, you get an hour long flow and a beer of your choice to enjoy before or after you run.
