Give your warm weather budget a break with these FREE events at Uptown parks in May and June

This post is brought to you in partnership with Uptown Charlotte Parks.  All opinions are our own.

If you thought Charlotte parks were only for dedicated joggers, fierce pedaling bikers, attention-seeking water foul, stroller moms and a great background for selfie overload, think again. This May and June, Romare Bearden Park and First Ward Park in Uptown will be transformed into your new favorite summer entertainment venues with stellar entertainment, food, fun, drinks and friends.

Two FREE events are headed your way in the next few weeks. Mark your must-see list with Romarefest at Romare Bearden Park May 19 from 6-9 p.m. and the Live on the Green kickoff June 1 and 2 at First Ward Park starting at 7 p.m. Friday night.

Free events mean more dollars in your pocket for a brew or two, grub from a local food truck or one more pair of flip-flops. Score!

What: Romarefest
Where: Romare Bearden Park, 300 S. Church Street
When: May 19, 6-9 p.m.
Entertainment: Next Level Band of Charlotte (Opener), Marion Meadows (Headliner)
Details: Call the usual suspects and take the light rail into Uptown (exit at Third Street and Convention Center station) and head to Romare Bearden Park on 300 South Church Street. Romarefest will sizzle your spring with fantastic musical talent, food and music. Grab an adult beverage from Red Clay Ciderworks, Birdsong Brewing Company, Free Range Brewing or Jones von Drehle winery, and get those toes to tapping. Pop a squat, bring a blanket or unfold your trusty lawn chair on the perfectly manicured green and soak in the scene. Food trucks will be on hand to keep you smiling and full.
Start grooving now: Go ahead, start jamming to the Next Level Band of Charlotte. They’re local and this is a no judgement zone.

Live on the Green Kick Off weekend June 1-2

Take the light rail to 7th Street Station and get ready to enjoy an evening under the stars. The cold beverage line up is equally as impressive with brews available from Blue Blaze Brewing, Birdsong Brewing Company, Legion Brewing Company, Red Clay Ciderworks and more. That’s whole lot of fun (and whole lot of free).
