Spring called. She says you should get out and enjoy this beautiful Carolina weather with Friends of Fourth Ward (FOFW).
On May 5 – 6, FOFW invite you to slow down, don your favorite spring apparel and practice the art of strolling as you tour urban gardens, neighborhood points of interest and a cemetery.
Let out a deep breath — the Secret Garden Tour is going to help you connect with spring and bring you back to center. Oh, and yes, there will be tastings. Lots and lots of tastings!
Urban gardens in the heart of the city
There’s something special about gardens and greenery that thrive in the the middle of a busy city, in the shadow of Uptown skyscrapers.
On the Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward Tour, you’ll spend the afternoon cruising down a charming brick-paved sidewalks, admiring historic homes, art and gardens of all shapes, sizes and colors that call Fourth Ward Home, while sampling craft food and beverages along the way.
Your $20 ticket lets you explore one of the best kept zen secrets in Charlotte — these private gardens, courtyards and outdoor living spaces are rarely open to the public.
How will you explore?
The tour is open from noon until 4 p.m. both days and will include a look at public art, historic homes, points of interests and the Elmwood/Pinewood Cemetery, weaving together what makes this historic area of the Queen City so special.
How you tour is up to you. You can go by foot or choose a complimentary B-Cycle or horse-drawn carriage (first-come, first-served).
Complimentary food and beverage tastings in gardens and restaurants along the tour route include Sea Level, Poplar Tapas, The Asbury, The Daily, Gilded Beverage, Zia Pia, Doc Porter’s Distillery, Method + Standard Vodka, Southern Star Whiskey, Rock Bottom Brewery, Corkscrew and PRP Wine.
Tickets ($20) are good for either day and may be purchased online at www.fofw.org or at Alexander Michael’s Restaurant & Tavern, Poplar Tapas Restaurant or Park Road Books. Redeem your tickets for tour guidebooks at the tour ticket booth at the corner of 9th and Poplar Streets in Fourth Ward.
The tour is self-guided, so once you have your guidebook, you can go at your own pace. (You can also purchase same day tickets at this location if they are still available. Fourth Ward events usually sell out, so get your tickets early.)
If you haven’t been charmed by this Uptown neighborhood with 100+ year old Victorian homes, luxury condos, urban apartments, parks and businesses, the garden tour is your chance to get a peek.
Head out to the Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward Tour May 5 and 6 and enjoy a festival that will connect you to nature and leave you feeling happy and ready for the season!
