New York-based Steve Wilson, described as “one of the finest saxophonists in the business,” is making a stop in Charlotte at The Jazz Room June 20 and 21. He’s been called a musician’s musician and he has lent his talent to more than 150 recordings. 150!
A small sample of what this stellar musician, educator and influencer can do will show you why.
Hot nights and cool jazz with one of the best in the business
The Jazz Room in Uptown Charlotte has a reputation for being a spot to enjoy some of the best jazz in the country, and hosting a talent like Wilson is another reason you have to experience this amazing venue.
Affordable ticket prices ($14 in advance, $16 at the door), up-close-and-personal seating and a full bar to suit every taste are a great way to enjoy Wilson’s distinctive, easygoing and soulful style. He recently put out his own blockbuster album, “Sit Back, Relax and Unwind” — the perfect way to ease into the weekend and get your “chillaxing” on.
More than a musician
Steve Wilson has a huge following in the real world and in the classroom. Wilson is an Associate Professor at City College of New York and on faculty at the Juilliard School. He has been a frequent guest performer/educator at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, as well as a panelist and clinician at conferences of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Chamber Music of America, and International Association of Jazz Educators.
This talent still finds time to perform with several Grammy-winning ensembles including the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Ron Carter Big Band and Buster Williams Quartet.
Catch Steve Wilson Friday, June 21 at The Jazz Room at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. and Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
