17 races you can sign up to run from now through New Year’s

The holiday season is officially upon us. Loved ones will be in town and there is no shortage of things to do here in our Queen City. But why walk around and show them the city when you could run?

Here’s your guide to all the races taking place in Charlotte from now to New Year’s Day. These all-levels races are perfect for beginners looking to see the city or for veteran runners striving for a new PR.

Another Chance 5K

McAlpine Park, 8711 Monroe Rd

Date: Saturday, November 17

Time: 10 a.m.

Distance: 5K run

Cost: $25

Another Chance is a nonprofit based in Charlotte that helps to fund organ donation organizations and pro bono transplantations, and works to educate the public on these services. 

Health Guidance 5K

3025 N Davidson St.

Date: Saturday, November 17

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 5K run

Cost: $30

Health Guidance is a local nonprofit patient advocacy group that works in Charlotte to protect patients and families. Help them continue to serve local families in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community free of charge by signing up for this race today.

Let Me Run 5K

Whitehall Business Park, 3600 Arco Dr.

Date: Saturday, November 17

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 5K run

Cost: $30

Let Me Run is an organization that promotes fitness, healthy lifestyles and positive relationships in the community. This is their end-of-season race, so don’t miss out! 

PurpleStride Charlotte

Romare Bearden Park, 300 S. Church St.

Date: Saturday, November 17

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 5K run/walk, 1 mile run

Cost: $30

PurpleStride runs/walks are huge sources of funding for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Your entire registration fee goes to the organization, so come and run Saturday morning with a community of survivors, impacted families and supporters.

Charlotte SouthPark Turkey Trot

SouthPark Mall, 4400 Sharon Rd.

Date: Thursday, November 22

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 8K, 5K and a 1 mile run

Cost: Varies by race

It’s that time of year again! Thanksgiving is almost here, and what better way to start the day than by running the 30th Annual Turkey Trot? Whether you go for the full 8K, the 5K or the one-mile run, you’re in for a good time. 

Turkey Dash

8410 Rea Rd.

Date: Thursday, November 22

Time: 8:30 a.m.

Distance: 4 miles, 1 mile

Cost: $39

Do you live in South Charlotte? Are you looking for a Thanksgiving Day race to work off all that turkey and pie? If you answered yes, then this is the run for you. 

University City Turkey Trot 5K

3024 Prosperity Church Road (formerly The Fresh Market)

Date: Thursday, November 22

Time: 8 a.m

Distance: 5K, kids run

Cost: $30

With a motto like “WAKE. RUN. FEAST!” you know you’re going to have a good time at this Thanksgiving Day race in the University City area. 

ACC Fan 5K

Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, 420 S. Tryon St.

Calling all ACC fans! There’s no better way kick-off championship game day than to beat your rival team in a race. Jerseys are optional, but fun isn’t. We promise you’ll have a blast. 

Jingle Bell Run

St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy.

Date: Saturday, December 8

Time: 8:45 a.m.

Distance: 5K, Kids run

Cost: $30

This is a great race to help ring in the holiday season. Bring a costume or wear some jingle bells while you run to support the Arthritis Foundation. 

Krueger Reindeer Romp 5K

Harris YMCA, 5900 Quail Hollow Rd

Date: Saturday,  December 8

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 5K, kids run

Cost: $35

What better way to celebrate the Christmas season than running through the streets dressed as Santa? You can also grab a picture with the real Santa Claus at the finisher’s festival. 

St. Nektarios Taking Steps 5K

St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Rd.

Date: Saturday, December 8

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 5K

Cost: $35

Come be a part of the first annual Taking Steps 5K, benefiting Shelter Health Services in Charlotte. 

Charlotte Pizza 5K

3001 Johnston-Oehler Rd.

Date: Saturday, December 15

Time: 2 p.m.

Distance: 5K

Cost: $25

Running and pizza? Sounds like a perfect afternoon! You’ll start the race with one slice, then you’ll get another out on the course. 

Run For The Warriors

Independence Park, 300 Hawthorne Lane

Date: Saturday,  December 15

Time: 9 a.m.

Distance: 5K, 1 mile

Cost: $30

This is a great race for all of those with loved ones in the armed forces. Come out and run with other military families, veterans and active duty soldiers. Proceeds will support military families. 

Santa Run 8K & Snowman Dash

Romare Bearden Park, 300 S Church St.

Date: Saturday, December 15

Time: 9 a.m.

Distance: 8K, 1 mile

Cost: $40

No costume? No problem! If you sign up for this 8K race, you’ll automatically receive a costume. You can choose between Santa, an elf, or a reindeer. Personally, I would choose reindeer so I could fly to the finish line… but it’s your call. 

We Believe: Santa 5K Trail Race

U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.

Date: Saturday,  December 15

Time: 12 p.m.

Distance: 5K trail run

Cost: $30

If you’ve ever wanted to give trail running a shot, now is the time to try it out! And here’s a little secret: the best thing about trail races is you can bring your dog(s). Expect to see plenty of festive four-legged friends out there taking on the race!

Run Run Rudolph

University Business Park, 8505 IBM Dr.

Date: Saturday,  December 22

Time: 8 a.m.

Distance: 10K, 5K

Cost: $35

There will be a fully stocked hot chocolate bar after you finish this race. What more do I need to tell you? There’s no better way to push for a PR than to know there is chocolate at the finish line. (And you get a hoodie, too!)

Strip It to Give It 8K/5K

Triple C Brewing Company, 2900 Griffith St.

Date: Saturday, Jan 5,  

Time: 11 a.m.

Distance: 8K, 5K

Cost: $35

Do you have clothes you don’t need? Someone else in our city could use them — so, put them on and then take them off to help the homeless in our community. All clothes will be handed out to our neighbors that need them.
