Cupcake fans all over Charlotte have been holding their breath ever since Heather McDonnell listed her award-winning cupcakery for sale.

On Tuesday, Cupcrazed announced that McDonnell found a buyer for Fort Mill’s Cupcrazed Cakery, located at 936 Market Street, Suite 103, so she can move to Charleston.

Taking over our future cupcake needs will be Wendy Shanahan, who is also the owner of Asterisk Creative, a Charlotte-based marketing and public relations firm. She will be keeping all of our favorite cupcake flavors, she said.

Eventually, Cupcrazed will expand to include wedding and other custom cakes, Shanahan said.

Additions to the team will include executive pastry chef Anne Marie Stefaney and Jamie Turner. Stefaney was named NCRLA 2017 Pastry Chef of  the Year and has made appearances on the Food Network and Bravo TV. Turner is active in Soul Food Sessions. Cupcrazed General Manager Kristin McCubbin and Assistant Manager Kaylie Ledderman will stay on the team.

Shanahan will continue to operate Asterisk Creative while her team handles the day-to-day operations of the bakery. “The idea of owning a bakery has been something my family and I have talked about for many years,” Shanhan told CharlotteFive. “This opportunity came up and it seemed like a perfect fit — with an incredible culinary team transitioning and coming onboard and my experience in public relations for several restaurants in the Charlotte region.”

McDonnell is known nationally as a winner on The Food Network’s “Rewrapped” and “Cupcake Wars.” Cupcrazed was also named to Yelp’s Top 100 businesses list in the nation in 2016. McDonnell closed the Charlotte location in February.
