CreativeMornings will fill your stomach and feed your soul

When organizer Matt Olin first contacted me about being a part of the pitch for CreativeMornings/Charlotte, the thing I loved most was his plan to bring people together from all over the city. Olin, a copywriter and head of Matt Olin Creative, wants to explore the creative ties between us.

“I just feel compelled to bring those people together so that we can be inspired,” Olin said, “so that we can get to know each other, so that we can really fortify our community and continue to capitalize on the momentum in the creative sector.”

That could have been the whole story: Local Artist Creates Exclusive Clubhouse for Self and Other Artists.

But here’s where it gets good. According to the Creative Mornings manifesto, “Everyone is creative, everyone is welcome.”

CreativeMornings, “a breakfast lecture series for the creative community,” isn’t just for designers, artists and people in creative jobs. It’s for everyone. The CMCLT team chose the web address and tagline “Charlotte is creative” to highlight the innate creative mind of all Charlotteans.

“We subscribe to the broad definition of creativity,” Olin told me. “We want Charlotte to keep their scope as wide as we are in terms of how they see creativity showing up in their lives. I would defy any of us to point at someone who is not creative in some special way.”

So what? In a city like Charlotte that has seen a boom in networking and coworking spaces and events, it’s easy to feel like there’s no more room to add anything else into your life. Except that CreativeMornings is coming at you in a way that nothing else is.

Creative people, when we gather together it’s usually at night over drinks,” Olin mused. “I’m interested in what happens when we get together in the morning. What will happen when we inspire that creativity in you and then you take that energy into the rest of the day?”

In preparation for the first monthly event, discussions weren’t just about which dynamic Charlottean is going to share a part of their creative journey, it was also about ways we can engage attendees on our monthly theme, who’s sponsoring the coffee and food, which live musician is going to perform, what fun games will attendees have a chance to play and what were they going to win?

This is what we do on the CM team.

The first gathering, at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 6 at LaCa Projects, features speaker Jen Band. Add yourself to the waiting list.

Or keep an eye out for what’s coming next, the first Friday of every month from 8:30-10 a.m. We fill your stomach and feed your soul. And maybe you walk away with a little inspiration that might just change your whole day, week, month, year.

“Get up. Get coffee. Get creative.”
