The 63rd Annual Singing Christmas Tree is a classic Queen City experience. While there have been other “singing trees” in the United States, Carolina Voices’ was the first fully-staged production – and it continues to be a holiday must-do here in Charlotte.
The Singing Christmas Tree is the heart of the show, standing 32 feet tall and holding up to 100 singers. One of the singers, Jesus Sierra, has loved being part of this tradition for eight years. When he saw the show one year before he moved to Charlotte, he wanted to be part of the production and spread Christmas cheer to families in the audience, dazzling them with pageantry, lights and holiday songs.
“It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve been able to be a part of,” says Sierra. “My favorite part of the show is when the curtain opens and hearing the ‘ooos’ and ‘ahhhs’ from the children and the adults.”
In addition to the Singing Christmas Tree, audiences will enjoy guest performers Caroline Keller, , the 100-voice Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Choir, Miller Street Dance Academy, Chris Thompson Drummers, Torrance Creek Elementary Choir and the acclaimed Grey Seal Puppets. Part of the Singing Christmas Tree tradition for 35 years, Grey Seal Puppets are featured in the Singing Christmas Tree for KIDS. The KIDS show began seven years ago as a fun alternative to the Tree, targeting a younger audience (3 to 10 years of age) and offering a way to introduce the arts to children. It’s 50 minutes in length and includes Carolina Voices Kids Choir, fun songs, sing-a-longs, and, of course, Santa.
