Charlotte’s Prize Shopping Center Gets Revitalized [Partner]

Revitalization is happening in Charlotte in a big way and what was once outdated is now in transition to brand new. One such place experiencing a renaissance is Park Road Shopping Center, more specifically the Back Lot. Haven’t heard of the Back Lot? You will. Not only are new additions such as Midwood Smokehouse and the beloved Amelie’s coming soon, but there is already a hidden gem that you may never have heard of – Classic Attic.

Conveniently located next to the soon-to-open delectable Amelie’s, Classic Attic is in no way an average consignment store. Classic Attic showcases Mid-Century and antique furniture and highly covetable home accessories at bargain prices. The inventory is constantly in flux so the odds of finding one’s dream piece are very high. “We love to get great items that will be conversation pieces in someone’s home,” says owner Ede Graves, “We sold a gorgeous antique French wardrobe to a savvy customer who had it painted a glossy gray with slate accents. It was fabulous!”

You never know what you might find at this sweet little Charlotte institution. Well known to decorators and antique enthusiasts, Classic Attic’s inventory has included pre-Civil War solid wood chests, a “God Save the Queen” sign “borrowed” from an English police station and a family portrait once owned by a Duchess. And more modern stylists have found authentic Breuer chrome chairs, Danish modern dining furniture and Georg Jensen sterling jewelry.

Unlike other consignment stores that you’ve been to, Classic Attic doesn’t take clothing, with one exception – new and vintage fine mink coats, jackets and stoles. Since it’s the end of the season, Classic Attic is hosting a sale on furs, but only until the end of February. “We sell many of the furs to women who wear them with jeans one weekend and with formal gowns the next,” says store manager Tara Igbanol. “Some designers even rework the furs to use as decorative accents for the home.”

Stop by the newly-updated Park Road Shopping Center’s Back Lot. Soon you’ll be able to make a day of it and visit one of the delicious new local eateries before or after shopping. At Classic Attic, you’re likely to find a perfect addition to your home décor, discover why this spot is one of Charlotte’s special gems and become another Classic “Addict.”
