Follow the neon finger pointing down a flight of stairs and you’ll find yourself in a true karaoke bar with little more than a popcorn machine (aka FREE popcorn!), a bartender, a stage and a mic.

Say goodbye to their paper song book and say hello to the mobile app now used for music at Jeff’s: Karafun. The app includes more than 260,000 songs to choose from. While waiting to hit your debut on stage, check out their daily drink specials.

When: Monday through Sunday, 7 p.m. – 2 a.m.

(2) Snug Harbor

1228 Gordon St.

Those of us not on tour with a band are invited onto the Snug Harbour stage once a week, PBR tallboys in hand, to test our pipes beneath the onlooking pirate skulls and disco lights. Is there really any better way to end the week?

When: Sundays 6 p.m. – 2 a.m.

(3) Seoul Food Meat Company

1400 S. Church St.

Seoul Food Meat Company is going to blow up your Americanized karaoke experience. Within the building they’ve got are four themed rooms, each dedicated to the traditional Korean style of karaoke. Get an inside look at the four different rooms here.

When: Monday through Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. – midnight.

(4) NoDa 101

3205 N. Davidson St. #101

Open for karaoke seven nights a week, NoDa 101 is basically “ol’ reliable” for karaoke fiends. At the far end of the shoebox-shaped bar, a modest wooden platform, a brightly colored mural and some stage lights await anyone with a song in their heart (and one of the bar’s fresh local beers in their hand).

When: Monday through Thursday 9 p.m. – 2 a.m.; Friday through Sunday 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.

(5) 8.2.0

Separated from the rest of the bar, this soundproof lounge has a dozen wigs, toy guitars, accessories and even a smoke machine to add to your big performance.

When: Wednesday through Thursday 5 p.m.-midnight; Friday through Saturday 5 p.m.-2 a.m.
