Let’s start our Monday morning with a HUGE number of development updates:
The Ballantyne YMCA shuffle: A new YMCA in Ballantyne is to begin construction in May, with an early 2016 open date. To be called Sara’s Y, after Ballantyne godfather Smokey Bissell’s late wife, the facility at the corner of Ballantyne Corporate Place and Brixham Hill Drive will come in around 23,000 square feet.
But the Y also taketh away, Ballantyne: Your express Y in Ballantyne Village will shut down when its lease expires. The idea is the new Y will fill the gap.
Panera soup for the soul: The chain that just about everybody can find something to like – soups, bagels, sandwiches, salads and when all else fails – pastries – is now coming to Carolinas Medical Center this summer. It will claim the spots once held by Caribou and Garden Fresh Cafe.

Guess where Chop’t is going? We’ve told you that this popular salad/wraps chain is coming to Park Road Shopping Center, but now we can tell you it’s specifically going between Charlotte Cafe and Lala girl, near the Harris Teeter. To open sometime this summer.

Who needs clean water and indoor plumbing? Krispy Kreme has announced plans to open 10 locations in third-world Cambodia – one of the poorest countries in the world. People on average live on $1.25/day. A glazed donut sounds like a day’s wages well spent.

New Run for Your Life: The popular running store opened its newest location, on Kings Drive along Little Sugar Creek, this past weekend. It’s a move that makes sense: minutes from uptown and a great spot to launch group runs right on the greenway.
Note: This store is actually the new location for the old Dilworth store off Park Road.
BBQ and golf: Queen City Q is the official barbecue provider at this year’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Just don’t drip sauce on your sundress.
