Charlotte’s newest yoga studio, Bijou 5, is opening this summer with $5 classes six days a week, all day. Opening day is set for Sept. 17.

Tucked away in Elizabeth at 2317 Randolph Road, it is a small but serene space. Rooted in the French language, “bijou” translates to small and elegant — and that is the vibe that founder Lori Parrish is presenting.

The focus isn’t on amenities — guests will walk into a small and welcoming room with cubbies on the walls. There is a small changing room available for all students. Complimentary coffee will also be available on a daily basis.

In addition to daily coffee, every Friday will be “Wine-Down Fridays” where the studio will provide a complimentary glass of wine after each Friday night class.

It is intentional that the studio doesn’t provide the luxury amenities many studios in Charlotte have begun offering. The mission of this studio is to bring affordable yoga to everyone, promoting itself as the first and only studio in Charlotte to exclusively offer $5 classes.

“I’m passionate about yoga and have practiced over 20 years,” Parrish said. “It changed my life. I want to be able to help people see not only the physical benefits but the mental as well.”

Teachers will aim to create a mind-body connection by offering a range of classes from deep stretch and meditation, to power flow classes. Many of the teachers are recent graduates from teacher training programs throughout Charlotte (myself included). They will each be planning and designing their own classes with complete creative liberty. The studio will be a space where the teachers can make it their own, and the students can really pick and choose the style of yoga they want to participate in.

In addition to the daily classes, the first Saturday of the month will feature a “Doga”class, allowing students practice with their pups. I don’t know about you, but this is what my doggo and I have been training for.

The schedule is live, albeit a work in progress as teachers continue to put together their class descriptions. You can already sign up for classes for the opening week of Sept. 17.

Space is limited — currently the classes max out at eight people. The goal is to keep the classes small, intimate, and accessible. As the studio continues to grow there is potential for class sizes to expand.

Parrish will host a Sneak Peek Party of the studio space on Saturday, Sept. 15th from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Mimosas are included.
