The folks behind Urban Food Group aren’t strangers to Charlotte’s dining scene. They’ve introduced us to Vivace and Civetta, and now they’re adding in some French and Spanish flare to bring us a match made in heaven. Bar Marcel is now open in SouthPark.
“We felt like SouthPark could identify with this concept. We find that the people in this area are adventurous and want to try things from other countries. We knew that they would appreciate having some of that accessible right here in their own neighborhood,” said Eric Cross, operations manager of Urban Food Group.
When you walk into Bar Marcel, you will be welcomed by an open and airy interior. The aesthetic was inspired by the coastline running from Italy to Spain, with natural elements like stone and wood.
During the day, there will be lots of natural light filling the space, while the evenings will bring candles and dim lights. There is also a cozy patio, complete with a fountain in the back. It will be a hip and relaxed environment, yet professional.
“We are so excited about this restaurant in particular. We have an Italian restaurant, we have a French restaurant, but this is our first foray into Spanish cuisine and we are madly in love with it,” Cross told CharlotteFive. “It’s such a great opportunity for us to marry the three.”
Chefs Mike Cruz and Josh Oakley have worked closely together to put together a menu filled with comfort foods from the three European countries.
Cross is most excited about the Valenciana paella, said to be outrageously good. The traditional Spanish rice dish will combine seafood, chicken and ham. Another must-try dish is the grilled octopus, which will also be pressure cooked to make it fork tender.
They will offer wines and cocktails from the full bar, including sangrias.
Bar Marcel is located at 3920 Sharon Rd., Suite 160.
