Get out of your dinner and a movie date night rut. Whether you’ve been married for years or are just settling into a new relationship, the Charlotte Ballet’s presentation of “Nutcracker” makes for a magical night.
Even if you’re a ballet first-timer, the magic of this performance will whisk you away to another time and place where toys and candy come to life for an evening of sugarplum fairies and mouse kings.
Still not convinced? Here are my top 5 reasons why Nutcracker makes for a great night out with that someone special:
1. A night on the town
Nutcracker is only one of the many exciting holiday activities going on uptown. Arrive a little early and take a stroll around the Mint Museum or Romare Bearden Park for a look at some of the city’s most gorgeous decorations.
2. Dinner and dancing
Since the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. why not grab a bite to eat before? (Especially somewhere that will validate your parking!) There are countless quick and delicious places within walking distance to Blumenthal.

Sip on a cocktail before, during and after the show. Grab a celebratory glass of champagne from one of the many lobby drink stations and toast the holidays. And best of all, you can bring it right to your seat!

4. Sweet tooth
If you weren’t already craving something sweet after your pre-show dinner, the final scene of the show takes place in a sugary wonderland. Amelie’s, Bar Cocoa and Crave Dessert Bar are all great options to satisfy your hankering for something chocolaty and delicious.

5. Classy date
How fancy do you feel saying, “Oh, we’re going to the ballet tonight?” Who knows, this may be a precursor to a new-found love of dance performances. And you’re supporting Charlotte Ballet! Yay local!
