All you need now is to choose a 5K that fits your personality. There are dozens of races coming up in the Charlotte area, and many more if you travel a short distance. It can be a hard decision to choose a race. To help you select the perfect race to run, I made a list of 5K races based on runners’ motivations. See if one of these get you out there:

Will run for beer

March 25, 2017 – Know Your Craft 5K. Finish this race and be rewarded with a beer from Triple C Brewing Company. Even better, the race proceeds go to Project 2 Heal, an organization that provides service dogs to adults and children with special needs, as well as wounded warriors. Bring your pup to the race, too.

April 23, 2017 – Pig Pounders 5K. If you are willing to travel for your beer, this race in Greensboro has you covered. Beer from Pig Pounder Brewery awaits you at the finish line.

Running with man’s best friend

April 1, 2017 – The Puppy Rescue 5K. No need to leave your four-legged training partner behind because dogs are welcome at this race. Proceeds benefit Kreitzer’s Critter Corral Puppy Rescue.

I’ll take the scenic route

Feb. 11, 2017 – Hearts-A-Bustin’ 5K. Run through Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens and on the Carolina Thread Trail. Participants may tour the garden after the race for free with race entry.

April 22, 2017 – Wild Turkey 5K. This race is for the birds! Run through trails at the Union County Agriculture Center to raise money for Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.

I own the night

May 12, 2017 – Twilight 5K. The Right Moves for Youth Twilight 5K is in its 21st year. The race begins at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Atrium in uptown Charlotte.

See and be seen

March 4, 2017 – BB&T Corporate Cup 5K – Want to be in the crowd? This race benefits YMCA of Greater Charlotte. It is one of the largest road races in Charlotte, with more than 3,700 runners in 2016.

Make a weekend of it

March 3, 2017 – Myrtle Beach Neon Night 5K. Nothing like using the excuse of a race to get to the beach. Run this twilight race and then attend a post-race party at House of Blues or Ripley’s.

April 1, 2017 – A Rush for the Brush. Like hills when you run? Then this race in Boone is for you. Race with Appalachian State University dental students to raise money for North Carolina Missions of Mercy. NCMOM is an organization that provides free dental clinics for people in need.

May 13, 2017 – Run to Momma. Get a head start on summer with a weekend in Charleston, SC. Run the beautiful trails at Middleton Place Woodlands, a 3,700-acre conservation easement. Proceeds benefit Low Country Orphan Relief.

I’m gonna need a lot of motivation

June 17, 2016 – Moonlight Bootlegger 5K. This race in Fort Mill has it all: Scenic route, evening run, bluegrass music every mile and moonshine cocktails at the finish line. No excuses!

Will run for chocolate

Feb. 11, 2017 – Great Chocolate Race. This last run is actually five miles, but I couldn’t leave my own race motivation off the list. Eat your chocolate with no guilt. Receive a Godiva Chocolate gift box and hot chocolate at the post-race event.

Now get out there and run.
