The restaurant-hungry Ballantyne area is about to get a new option, when Augusto Conte, one of Charlotte’s most prolific restaurateurs, opens a new restaurant in early December in Waverly Charlotte at Providence and Ardrey Kell roads.
Conte, whose Conte Restaurant Group also owns Luce, Toscana, Malabar and Mezzanote, says Via Roma will be a fine-dining restaurant similar to Toscana and Luce, with a menu that focuses strongly on traditional Italian cooking, particularly from Rome and Tuscany. Expect fresh and dried pastas, a T-bone version of Tuscan-style grilled steak, and seasonal fish dishes.
Via Roma is named after the street where Conte grew up on the island of Ishcia, off the Italian coast near Naples.
“It reflects our two flagship restaurants, Toscana and Luce,” he says. “A lot of regulars say, ‘when are you going to open in Ballantyne?’ In a location like this, it’s growing a lot.”
He expects Via Roma to open between Dec. 5 and 10.
A look at a draft version of the menu shows shared plates (bruschetta and classics like fritto misto) from $7.95 to $17.95, salads and antipasti such as Roman-style artichoke and carpaccio, from $8.95 to $14.95, pastas, including a burrata ravioli, from $20.95 to $25.95, and full entrees (Tuscan-style steaks, osso buco and seasonal fish like branzino) from $22.95 to $41.95. Desserts and sides are $6.95.
