Husband-and-wife business partners Chris and Kelli Narveson are opening their second Orangetheory Fitness studio in Fort Mill’s Kingsley shopping center this summer.
Chris, a pro baseball player, and Kelli, a new mom, opened their first Orangetheory in the University area in early 2016. The two say they’d always planned to open a second location, and are optimistic about the fast development of the Fort Mill area.
“It was a matter of being patient and waiting for the right fit for us,” Kelli Narveson said of Kingsley. “As we started seeing the plans, we thought this will be worth the wait.”
The new 2,850 square-foot Fort Mill studio is next to a Clean Juice and a Panera. Kingsley is also where LPL Financial moved its headquarters to from Charlotte last year.
At their new studio, the Narvesons say they plan to hire between 10-15 new employees. They will also soon hold auditions for trainers, or Orangetheory “coaches.”
A pre-sale at the new studio started about a month ago, Kelli Narveson said. It includes the period during construction when memberships are offered at a discounted rate before they’re available to the public.
Orangetheory offers 60 minutes of high-intensity training divided into timed sections of cardio and strength training for participants of all fitness levels. Intervals are done using treadmills, rowing machines, TRX suspension training and free weights. Heart rate monitors are worn to track workout intensity and maximize metabolic burn.
Kelli Narveson is a marathoner who started doing Orangetheory as a way to incorporate strength conditioning into her routine. Her husband, who has played for the Miami Marlins and is currently with the Cleveland Indians’ AAA affiliate, the Columbus Clippers, does Orangetheory workouts during the off-season.
“We like to get to know as many of our members as possible. We work out with them,” Narveson said.
Orangetheory has been expanding rapidly in the Charlotte area, with locations in Quail Corners, Ballantyne, South End and beyond. The Narveson’s Fort Mill studio will be the brand’s ninth area location.
