The fastest-growing food festival in Lake Norman is set for Sunday, Sept. 10, from 3–7 p.m. at Birkdale Village.
Taste of Birkdale features sample menu items from more than a dozen eateries in Birkdale Village, including great restaurants like Dressler’s, Bonefish and Eez Fusion & Sushi, as well as desserts from stores like Kilwins and Ben & Jerry’s. Four local food trucks add to the delicious options with both sample and full-menu items. This year’s food truck participants include Carolina Smash, Comfort Food on Wheels, Hiya and Lobster Dogs. In addition, the beer and wine tasting is expanding this year, thanks to a partnership with Corkscrew Wine Bar. Participants will be treated to full beer and wine gardens from breweries like Sierra Nevada, Great Lakes and Guinness, and wineries including Precept, J. Lohr and Charles Krug.
Local artists Exit 54 are scheduled to provide an atmosphere of grooves for the adults while children take part in all the joys of Taste of Birkdale’s several bouncy houses. The event will be spread across Birkdale Village with vendors set up throughout the property. Plus, a silent auction will be held featuring quality items from Birkdale Village tenants and sponsors. Most vendors at the festival operate on a cash-only basis.
Taste of Birkdale has been held annually for more than 10 years as a benefit for Lake Norman Hospice and Palliative Care. While it’s always been one of Birkdale’s largest events, the growth during the past two years has made it a must-do for any food, beer or wine lover near Lake Norman. The funds raised for Hospice grew by nearly 35% in 2015, and then by another 50% in 2016 to $12,000. In total, Taste of Birkdale has raised more than $40,000 for the charity through the years.
