Did you know there is a 2,100-acre nature preserve and recreational park located in Fort Mill, SC, just minutes south of Charlotte? It’s true! Welcome to the Anne Springs Close Greenway. If you haven’t visited this recreational paradise you are missing one of the best places to escape the city and soak up some nature. Luckily, April is Love the Greenway Month and we have the inside scoop on how to take advantage of this amazing outdoor destination.
Get your hike on
Start the month out on the right foot (or left) and be part of Blue Star Blitz on April 1. This event is a grassroots hike-a-thon fundraiser covering the 7.2 mile Blue Star Trail starting at 9 a.m. You can hike, walk or run the entire trail or participate in the Half Blitz (3.5 miles) at 10:30 a.m. or Fun Blitz (half-mile paved trail) at 11 a.m. Grab a team of friends, family or co-workers and help the greenway reach its goal of raising $211,000 which represents one dollar for every foot of the Greenway’s 40 miles of trails.
Music and beer
Nothing goes better with hiking than great music and a fine brew. Hikers and non-hikers alike can start or end the day at the Comporium Amphitheater and get down with DJ Nigel, partake in food truck good eats and enjoy family entertainment. Don’t miss the Matt Stratford Trio performing at 11 a.m. at the Blitz Biergarten featuring craft beer from more than a dozen breweries.
Put that selfie stick to good use and share your Greenway photos during the “Get Your Selfie Outside” photo contest. During April, tag your photos using #GetYourSelfieOutside and you could win a prize. Don’t have a selfie stick? No problem. If you become a new Greenway member during April, you’ll receive a FREE selfie stick plus a coupon for a free photobook from Shutterfly. Score!
Earth Day celebration
We can’t think of a better way to thank Mother Nature for all she does than by being part of the Greenways’ annual Earth Day Celebration April 22. This free outdoor event features live music, entertainment and activities for the entire family. Events will be held at the Comporium Amphitheater located near the Dairy Barn entrance to the Greenway.
Other ways to show your love
Don’t be fickle, show your love April and all year at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. The greenway is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset and you can fish, hike, walk, mountain bike, run, horseback ride, picnic, kayak and more (maybe not all in the same day). Bring Fido (and a leash) and explore the Greenway together.
All you need is love, so show yours in April or any time of year at the Anne Spring Close Greenway. We promise, it will love you back.
