“I want to tell as many stories as I can,” said 31-year-old local hip-hop artist KM. “I want to be able to say something that I’ve gone through or someone else has gone through.”
KM is talking relationships, life and more in his first album “What We Built” dropping July 19. Lucky for us, we got a preview of a few songs including “Walk in the Park” and “2017 Flex” for our second installment of our C5 Couch Sessions, a private, intimate performance right here in our office. Check out KM below.
What started out as free-styling in high school turned into a real passion when he moved to Charlotte six years ago. KM tries to write a song once a week because, he said, “It’s all about repetition and consistency, no matter what you’re doing.”
KM thinks that hip hop artists in Charlotte are making great strides. Some of his musical inspirations outside of the Queen City include Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino.
“I feel like everyone has a story to tell, whether it’s good or bad,” he said.
For more on KM, check his Creative Mornings CLTperformance at Camp North End, head to his listening party July 15 at Draught Charlotte, listen to his first album on SoundCloud, Spotify and iTunes, and visit http://www.kmusiq.com/.
Special thanks to Charlotte Star Room, a music development and video production studio for singers, songwriters and producers, for hooking us up with local musicians for our C5 Couch Sessions!
