You might not have heard about Charlotte’s contemporary theatre company XOXO, but that’s about to change with the production of #CAKE (Year Zero). #CAKE (Year Zero) merges politics, power, crime, drama and satire together in a futuristic Queen City. It also asks some tough questions from the inside out. Are you ready to rebuild the world? Get your tickets through June 24 and start talking. Here’s what you can expect.
#CAKE (Year Zero) is set in a dystopian, near-future Charlotte where democratic government has been replaced by a corporation. The characters and audience members travel through the streets of Charlotte trying to make sense of this new reality. (Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to speak or perform, you will be asked to think.)
In #CAKE (Year Zero) the lines between good and bad are blurred. The characters are unabashedly political and are sure to elicit strong reactions from the audience and each other. Those feelings and the intense atmosphere is intentional. XOXO artists and the director, Matt Cosper, have created this space for response, reflection and discussion around some mind bending themes.
