The weekend is nearly here. Time to make your plans for sipping, snacking, art-gazing, mingling, running and more.

(1) Savor the Charlotte food and bev scene.

Celebrate the grand opening weekend of Fidelli Kitchen in South End. Stop in from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 8 (and Monday, Jan. 9 after the weekend). Snag a free croissant, cookie or cheesecake with every entree purchase, limited to one per person. There will also be a drawing for free gift cards and wine cards for people who have liked the Facebook page before Friday. (Get details on the restaurant here and see the photo above for menu inspiration.) 1616 Camden Road Suite #100.

Track down your favorite Girl Scout cookie at The Fillmore Jan. 7 during the second annual Cookies & Crafts event. Two sessions (2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.) give you a shot at tasting local craft beer samples from about 20 breweries paired with a specific cookie. Participating breweries include Lenny Boy Brewing Co., Cabarrus Brewing Co. and Birdsong Brewing Co. 820 Hamilton St.

(2) Opt for an art reception.

I’m biased on this one, but you can find me at the Sous Terrain reception Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Free Range Brewing. Local photographer (and my boyfriend) Rémy Thurston presents a complete sweet potato immersion for his first photography show, celebrating this form of North Carolina produce. The photography documents dishes and drinks crafted by local sous chefs and apprentices. Expect a sweet potato beer and sweet potato dish at the reception. The show will be on display through Jan. 30. 2320 N. Davidson St.

Also on Friday, you can catch the reception for the exhibition “Chrysalis” by local artist Lara Americo from 7-10 p.m. at Gallery C3. The artwork, a blend of 3-D molding and photography, explores the meaning of inhabiting the human body, and the concept that the body is a shell and the true self extends beyond the flesh. The exhibition will be on display through Jan. 23. 2525 Distribution St.

(3) Join a watch party.

View Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge” with friends from Opera Carolina from 7-9:30 p.m. at Tresata on Jan. 6 while sipping the specialty HOPera Carolina beer from D9 Brewing Company. Then get a sneak peek of the Opera Carolina commercial for “La Traviata.” James Meena, General Director and Principal Conductor, will also discuss the link between the film and Verdi’s opera. 1616 Camden Road, Suite 300.

(4) Get outside.

Join Sunday’s CRC Trail Race Training Run at the U.S. National Whitewater Center from 9-10 a.m. The Charlotte Running Company is leading the training runs both Jan. 8 and Jan. 15, leading up to the CRC Trail Race on Jan. 21 (register here). Find the CRC tent in the parking lot, 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.

(5) Catch a concert.

Abbey Road LIVE! performs “Abbey Road” on Jan. 6 at The Visulite Theatre. The show goes from 9 p.m.-midnight and covers this entire album by The Beatles. 1615 Elizabeth Ave.

The next day, Jan. 7, Tantrum is playing at Moochies Tavern from 9 p.m.-midnight. While you’re there, don’t overlook the corner of the space that’s dedicated to the Imbibe Wine and Craft Cocktail Bar. 15060 Idlewild Road, Suite I, Matthews.
