A new beer garden may be coming to a booming stretch of South End close to uptown Charlotte.

A “Charlotte Beer Garden” appears to be planned for 1300 S. Tryon, in the spot currently occupied by Lighting & Bulbs Unlimited and across the street from Mosaic South End Apartments, preliminary planning records indicate.

A manager at Lighting & Bulbs said Tuesday that the business is moving to a new spot on Monroe Road, although he could not confirm when the move will take place.

Records show the property is owned by a company affiliated with the Ratcliffe family, who once owned the iconic Ratcliffe Flowers in uptown Charlotte. They couldn’t immediately be reached for more information.

The stretch of South Tryon stretch in South End where the new beer garden is going in is changing rapidly.

Down the street, for instance, an ABC store opened in December at 1426 S. Tryon, a spot that previously housed Silverfly. Dimensional Fund Advisors is building a new, seven-story building for its East Coast headquarters. The popular music venue Amos’ Southend closed last year at 1423 S. Tryon, as the owners of Gin Mill next door plan to renovate it and add a rooftop patio, kitchen and other new features.
